The “On the Move” Mobility and Public Space Study aims to promote a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable mobility system in Montornès del Vallès. In the absence of an active Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, this study takes a hands-on, transformative approach grounded in the idea of “urban acupuncture”: small, strategic interventions that generate large-scale impacts in everyday life.

But how do we move, and why? Who feels safe in public space—and who doesn’t? How does urbanism affect our health, wellbeing, and capacity to relate to others? This study understands mobility not merely as a technical issue, but as a daily expression of rights and inequalities. It therefore includes governance, pedagogy, awareness, and communication as core components, alongside physical interventions.

The diagnostic work was based on four complementary maps—territorial, administrative, documentary, and social—and addressed 12 key areas, including gender, childhood, commerce, sustainability, participation, and accessibility. It identified seven priority intervention areas, such as school environments, commercial streets, the connection between Montornès Centre and Nord, and the pedestrian and cycling networks.

The result is a roadmap structured into 9 strategic axes, 32 action lines, and 98 concrete actions designed to foster active, healthy, intermodal, and community-oriented mobility.

“On the Move” is more than a mobility study: it’s an invitation to rethink the street as a space that nurtures, educates, and connects. A tool for building a city rooted in care, equity, and collective transformation.
